Welcome to UnCorked!
In which I will attempt to demystify and de-snobbify the world of wine. Ultimately, I hope you’ll come to think of me as your “knowledgeable wine friend.” I am certainly not a certified expert, and I don’t expect to say much that is totally new and groundbreaking. However, I do hope to say it in a way that is straightforward, friendly, and accessible to wine lovers of all experience levels and backgrounds. (full disclosure-if you are already an expert working in the wine biz, it may be a little overly simplified for your tastes...)
I began my wine journey not so very long ago (think single-digit aughts,) knowing only a little, but wanting to know more- and upon graduating from Washington State University’s extension certificate programs in Enology and Viticulture, I decided to share some of what I’ve learned to this point… and to keep sharing as I continue to learn.
Here, I will cover some basics on how wine is made, some how-to-taste basics, info about specific types of wine/grape varietals (including some hopefully fun taste-along posts,) as well as chronicle some of my experiences with home winemaking, volunteering at a winery, working as a shop-girl, and just plain loving wine.
I’ll try to keep things short and to-the-point (no promises,) but please feel free to ask questions and suggest topics in the comments that you’d like to see me cover. (And feel free to check out some of my more professionally edited work over at the International Wine Accessories Blog.)
Cheers!
